Hi, I’m Mark.

I’m a seed investor, AI researcher, and lab-to-market strategist. I find my polymath purpose in connecting dots across disciplines to bridge fundamental science to real world impact.

In my personal life, I like to be high on a mountain, deep in the ocean, out on the open road, or buried in a book.

Below is my formal bio. Feel free to copy/paste as much or as little as you like depending on how you’re using it.

Lab-to-Market at MIT

Mark Weber is a seed investor, AI researcher, and lab-to-market strategist. He has spent a decade operating in the MIT community as a catalyst for scientific commercialization, first with the MIT Digital Currency, then with IBM Research and the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, and now as a Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab. His publications in graph deep learning, algorithmic fairness, and finance are the backdrop of his work connecting scientists with CTO’s and mapping the road to impact. Mark has managed large global innovation teams and large client accounts with numerous Fortune 500 companies, engaging many more as a speaker and strategist.

Mark is an investor at Tectonic Ventures, an early stage venture firm specializing in the seed-to-Series A journey for B2B tech founders in the one-hop neighborhood of MIT-Harvard. Mark serves on the Board of Trustees for the Harambe Alliance of African Entrepreneurs and as a mentor for the SundAI Hacker Club, a dedicated community of AI builders who ship new full stack applications every single week.

Mark gained much his perspective on business and society having spent the first chapter of his career focused on international poverty and development. He is the co-producer of the documentary film Poverty, Inc., which premiered on Netflix in 2016, won the $100K Templeton Freedom Award, and toured the international film festival circuit to critical acclaim.

In his personal life, Mark is an ultramarathon runner, free diver, backcountry skier, chess player, and adventure motorcyclist.
